MET value — higher means more intense

ABOUT THIS TOOL

The Calorie Burn Calculator estimates the energy you expend during various physical activities using the MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) method. It’s widely used by fitness enthusiasts, athletes and individuals managing weight to understand the impact of exercise. By entering your weight, selecting an activity, and the duration, you get a science‑based approximation of calories burned.

MET values represent the ratio of your working metabolic rate to your resting metabolic rate. One MET is the energy you burn at rest (sitting quietly). Our calculator uses standard MET values from the Compendium of Physical Activities. For example, brisk walking has a MET of about 5, meaning you burn five times more energy than at rest. The formula is: Calories burned = MET × weight in kg × duration in hours. We automatically convert your weight from pounds if needed and handle minutes/hours seamlessly.

This tool covers a wide range: from slow walking to vigorous running, cycling, weight lifting, yoga, circuit training and rowing. It’s perfect for planning workouts, estimating total daily energy expenditure (TDEE), or tracking progress. The values are estimates — individual factors like age, gender, body composition and fitness level can affect actual burn. Use it as a consistent reference.

We update the MET values regularly to match the latest research. The interface is minimal but powerful: no distracting elements, just the essentials. The calculator also works offline (after first load) and is fully responsive, so you can track calories on your phone at the gym or during an outdoor run. For weight loss or muscle gain, combine the results with our nutrition tools on MultiCalculators.org.

Always listen to your body and consult a healthcare provider before starting any intense exercise regimen. This tool is for informational purposes and should not replace professional advice. Additional context: The calculator assumes a resting MET of 1.0. If you weigh 70 kg and walk briskly (MET 5) for 30 minutes (0.5 hours), the estimated burn is 5 × 70 × 0.5 = 175 kcal. But our default example uses 70 kg, 30 min brisk walking, giving 175 kcal. Feel free to experiment. We included extra activities like yoga (MET 6) and rowing (MET 13) to cover both low‑impact and high‑intensity workouts. Remember to adjust duration accurately — even 10 minutes of high‑intensity running can produce meaningful burn. This tool respects your privacy: no data is stored or sent to any server. All calculations happen locally in your browser. Stay active and stay healthy!
